Loyalty Points Value Calculator

Check what one point is really worth and whether your earning and redemption rules feel generous to customers without eating your margin.

Your earning & redemption rules

Example: 5 points per $1, a $5 coupon at 500 points → customers get 5% back. Most healthy Shopify programs sit between 3% and 10%.

Why the reward rate matters

Customers don't think in points - they instinctively translate your rules into "how much do I get back?". The effective reward rate is reward value divided by the spend needed to earn it. If 500 points cost $100 of purchases and buy a $5 coupon, the customer is earning 5% back. That single number decides whether your program feels worth joining.

Under 3% and sign-ups stall; over 10% and every redemption quietly erodes contribution margin. The sweet spot for most Shopify stores is 3-10%, tuned by product margin and purchase frequency - high-margin beauty brands can afford the top of the range, thin-margin electronics should stay near the bottom.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the value of a loyalty point?

Divide the dollar value of a reward by the points needed to claim it. A $5 coupon that costs 500 points makes each point worth 1 cent. Multiply by your earn rate (points per $1) to get the effective reward rate customers experience.

What is a good reward rate for a Shopify loyalty program?

Between 3% and 10% back is the healthy range for most stores. Below 3% customers rarely feel the program is worth joining; above 10% the program starts eating into margin unless your repeat-purchase economics are exceptional.

Should every point be worth exactly 1 cent?

Not necessarily, but simple ratios are easier for customers to understand. Many strong programs use 1 point per $1 with 100 points = $1 (1% base) plus bonus events, or 5 points per $1 with 500 points = $5 (5%).

How do bonus point events change the math?

Double- or triple-point weekends temporarily raise your effective reward rate. Model the promotional rate here (e.g. 10 points per $1 instead of 5) to make sure limited-time events stay within margins you can afford.

Can I set different point values per VIP tier?

Yes - escalating earn rates per tier (e.g. 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x) are one of the strongest retention mechanics. Keystone Loyalty & Rewards supports per-tier earn rates, custom rewards and points expiry out of the box.
