Product Selection
This guide covers how to assign your option sets to specific products or collections in your Shopify store.
Overview
The Product Selection feature allows you to control which products display your custom option sets. You can assign option sets to individual products or entire collections, making it easy to manage options across your store at scale.
Key Benefit
Assign one option set to multiple products or collections to maintain consistency and save time.
Accessing Product Selection
- Navigate to Option Sets in your Product Options app
- Either create a new option set or edit an existing one
- Click on the Product Selection tab
- Choose your selection method and assign products or collections
Selection Methods
You have two ways to assign your option sets to products. Choose one method per option set – you cannot mix individual products and collections in the same option set.
Individual Product Selection
Best for assigning options to specific products that need unique configurations.
How to select individual products:
- In the Product Selection tab, click the Select Products button
- Use the search bar to find products by name
- Click on products to add them to your selection
- Selected products will appear in the list below
- Click Save in the contextual bar to apply changes
When to use this method:
- You have a small number of products that need this option set
- Products requiring these options don't belong to the same collection
- You need precise control over which products display the options
Collection-Based Selection
Best for applying options to groups of products that share common characteristics.
How to select collections:
- In the Product Selection tab, click the Select Collections button
- Use the search bar to find collections by name
- Click on collections to add them to your selection
- Selected collections will appear in the list below
- Click Save in the contextual bar to apply changes
When to use this method:
- You want all products in a collection to have the same options
- You regularly add new products to collections that need these options
- You want to manage options at scale with less manual work
Automatic Application
When you assign an option set to a collection, all current products in that collection will display the option set. Any products you add to the collection in the future will also automatically display these options.
Managing Your Selections
After selecting products or collections, you'll see them displayed in a searchable list below the selection buttons.
Viewing Selections
- All selected items appear in a list with their names
- Use the search bar to quickly find specific products or collections
- The list updates in real-time as you add or remove items
Removing Items
To remove a product or collection from your selection:
- Locate the item in the list below
- Click the remove button next to the item
- The item will be removed immediately
- Click Save to confirm your changes
Adding More Items
You can add more products or collections at any time:
- Click the Select Products or Select Collections button again
- Search and select additional items
- They'll be added to your existing selection list
- Click Save to apply changes
Saving Your Configuration
Important

To save your product selection:
- Review your selected products or collections in the list
- Click Save in the contextual bar at the top of the page
- A confirmation message will appear when saved successfully
Testing Your Option Set
After saving your product selection, verify that your options appear correctly:
- Open your online store in a new tab
- Navigate to one of the products you assigned
- Check that the option set displays on the product page
Not Seeing Your Options?
If options don't appear on your product page, make sure you've added the Keystone App Block to your theme. See the Add App Block for instructions.
Best Practices
Choose the Right Method
- Use Individual Selection when you need granular control over specific products
- Use Collection Selection when managing product groups with shared characteristics
- Consider organizing your products into collections first, then use collection-based selection for easier management
Keep It Organized
- Use clear, descriptive names for your option sets to identify their purpose
- Regularly review your product selections to ensure they're up to date
- Remove products or collections that no longer need the option set
Plan for Scale
- If you frequently add new products, collection-based selection reduces manual work
- Create multiple option sets for different product categories rather than one massive set
- Test your option sets on a sample product before applying to large collections
Common Use Cases
Apparel Options
Assign size, color, and material options to your clothing collection using collection-based selection.
Customizable Products
Use individual selection for specific products that offer personalization, like engraved jewelry or custom prints.
Seasonal Products
Create collection-based option sets for seasonal collections (e.g., "Holiday Gift Wrapping" for your Holiday Collection).
Product Bundles
Apply bundle options to specific products using individual selection for precise control.
Next Steps
Once you've assigned your option set to products:
- Customize the appearance of your options
- Add pricing to option values
- Set up conditional logic to show/hide options dynamically
