Getting Started with Key Product Options
What You'll Accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have:
- Created your first option set (like size, color, or material choices)
- Added options to your product pages so customers can see them
- Customized the look to match your store (optional)
- Set up extra charges for premium options (optional)
- Tested everything with a sample order
Estimated time: 10-15 minutes for basic setup
Step 1: Create Your First Option Set
What is an Option Set? Think of an Option Set as a container for related choices. For example, if you sell t-shirts, you might create a "T-Shirt Options" set that contains size choices (Small, Medium, Large) and color choices (Red, Blue, Green).
Simple Examples:
- T-Shirt Options: Size (S, M, L, XL), Color (Red, Blue, Black)
- Pizza Options: Size (Small, Medium, Large), Toppings (Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Extra Cheese)
- Phone Case Options: Model (iPhone 14, iPhone 15), Color (Clear, Black, Pink)
How to Create Your First Option Set:
Name Your Option Set
- Use a clear, descriptive name like "T-Shirt Options" or "Cake Customization"
- This name is for your reference - customers won't see it
Add Your Options
- Click "Add Option" for each choice you want to offer
- Example: Add "Size" option, then add choices: Small, Medium, Large
- Add "Color" option, then add choices: Red, Blue, Green
Set Option Types
- Dropdown: Best for many choices (like 10+ colors)
- Radio Buttons: Best for 2-6 choices (like sizes)
- Checkboxes: When customers can pick multiple items

Step 2: Add Options to Your Product Pages
Why this step matters: Creating options is just the first part - now you need to add them to your product pages so customers can actually see and use them when shopping.
What you're doing: Adding our "App Block" to your product page template. Don't worry - this sounds technical, but it's actually very simple!
How to Add the App Block:
- Click the button below - it will open your theme customization in a new tab
- Look for "Product Page" or "Product Template" in the left sidebar
- Find "App Blocks" or "Apps" section
- Add "KS Product Options" block
- Position it where you want the options to appear (usually near the Add to Cart button)
- Save your changes

Need help?
Most merchants place the options block just above or below the "Add to Cart" button for the best customer experience.

Step 3: Customize Your Options Style (Optional)
Make it match your brand! Your options will work perfectly with default styling, but you can customize colors, fonts, and layout to match your store's look and feel.
Popular Customization Options:
Theme Inherited Style (Default)
- Your options seamlessly merge with your existing theme
- Uses your store's fonts, colors, and design automatically
- No setup required - perfect for most merchants
Quick Templates
- Choose from pre-designed styles in the "Templates" section
- Professional looks with one-click application
Custom Styling
- Colors: Match your brand colors for buttons and text
- Borders & Shapes: Adjust button styles and corner rounding
- Shadows: Add depth with custom shadow effects
- Layout: Choose how options are displayed (horizontal, vertical, grid)

Step 4: Set up Add-on Charges (Optional)
Charge extra for premium options. Some options might cost you more to provide (like premium materials, extra large sizes, or rush delivery). You can add extra charges to these options.
Common Add-on Charge Examples:
- Size XL: +$2.00
- Premium Material: +$5.00
- Gift Wrapping: +$3.50
- Express Shipping: +$9.99
How It Works:
- Go to your Option Set
- Click on the option you want to charge extra for
- Enter the additional price
- Under the "Pricing" section, select to add a fee or link an existing variant to use the price of a product you already have in your product catalog
- The extra charge will be automatically added to the customer's cart

Step 5: Set Up Conditions for Your Options (Optional)
Show the right options at the right time. Conditions let you control when specific options appear. For example, only show "XL" size for certain products, or only show "Rush Delivery" for orders over $50.
What You Can Control With Conditions:
Product-Based Conditions:
- Product Tag: Show options only for tagged products (like "premium" or "seasonal")
- Product Title: Display options based on specific product names
- Product Price: Show premium options only for higher-priced items
Customer-Based Conditions:
- Customer Tag: Special options for VIP customers or wholesale buyers
- Customer Logged In: Different options for registered vs. guest customers
Time-Based Conditions:
- Date: Seasonal options or limited-time offers
- Day of the Week: Weekend specials or weekday-only options
Option-Based Conditions:
- Other Selected Options: Show/hide options based on previous customer selections
How Conditions Work:
Think of conditions like simple "if-then" rules for your store:
"IF this condition is true, THEN show/hide these options"
Choose Your Matching Rules:
- "is" - Exact match (Customer Tag is exactly "VIP")
- "is not" - Everything except this (Customer Tag is not "Wholesale")
- "contains" - Includes this word (Product Title contains "Premium")
- "does not contain" - Missing this word (Product Title does not contain "Sale")
- "is empty" - No value set (Customer Tag is empty)
- "is not empty" - Has any value (Customer Tag is not empty)
Real Examples:
- IF Product Tag "contains" Premium → THEN show Gold Packaging option
- IF Customer "is not" logged in → THEN hide Wholesale Pricing
- IF Day of Week "is" Saturday → THEN show Weekend Delivery option
Multiple Conditions:
Use "any" (OR logic) or "all" (AND logic) to combine rules:
- Show Express Shipping IF Product Price is over $100 OR Customer Tag is VIP
- Show Gift Wrapping IF Product Tag contains "Gift" AND Date is before December 25th
When to Use Conditions:
- You have different options for different products
- Some options are only available under certain circumstances
- You want to simplify choices for customers
How to Set Up Conditions:
- Go to the option set you want to set up conditions for
- Go to the "Conditional Logic" tab
- Click the "Add Condition" button
- Select the Field type you are looking for, its operator, and the value if needed
- Select "Then" logic to show or hide certain option/s
[Setup Conditions] (Button redirects to Option Set Page)
Step 6: Test Everything Works (Recommended)
Always test before going live! Testing ensures your customers will have a smooth experience and your orders will process correctly.
How to Test:
- Visit your store like a regular customer
- Find a product with your new options
- Select different options and check if prices update correctly
- Add to cart and verify the options appear in the cart
- Complete a test order (you can cancel it afterward)
NOTE
Test button functionality will be defined
What to Check:
- ✅ Options appear on the product page
- ✅ Prices update when selecting paid options
- ✅ Options show correctly in the cart
- ✅ Order confirmation includes selected options
[Test Your Options] (Button redirects to store URL - test functionality to be defined)
