Review Earning Rule

Overview

The Review Earning Rule rewards customers with loyalty points — or a discount — for leaving product reviews. By connecting your review platform to Keystone Loyalty, every review a customer writes becomes an opportunity to earn a reward. This drives more reviews (social proof) and more engaged, returning customers at the same time.

The rule is provider-agnostic: it works with whichever review platform your shop has connected. Judge.me is supported today, with more platforms (Yotpo, Loox) planned.

Requires a connected review platform. The rule stays inactive — even when enabled — until a review platform is connected. See Review Platforms for how to connect one.

How Awarding Works

When a customer leaves a review, the review platform notifies Keystone automatically. Keystone matches the reviewer to a loyalty customer by email, records the review, and grants the award when it is due:

Reviews per award = 3, Maximum awards = 2

Review 1 ├─ recorded, no award yet
Review 2 ├─ recorded, no award yet
Review 3 ├─ threshold reached → award granted (1 of 2)
Review 4 ├─ recorded, no award yet
Review 5 ├─ recorded, no award yet
Review 6 ├─ threshold reached → award granted (2 of 2)
Review 7 └─ recorded — cap reached, no further awards

A few guarantees worth knowing:

  • No double awards. Every review is counted exactly once, even if the review platform sends the same notification more than once.
  • The cap counts awards, not reviews. With reviews per award = 3 and a cap of 3 awards, a customer reaches the cap at 9 reviews. Lowering the cap stops further awards; awards already granted are kept.
  • Awards are kept if a review is later unpublished. An award that has been granted is not clawed back when the review is hidden or unpublished afterwards.

Only Reward Verified Buyers

With this setting on (the default), an award is granted only when the reviewer is a verified buyer — their email matches an order in your shop. The verified status is set automatically by the review platform; it cannot be set manually.

This is your anti-abuse layer:

  • Anonymous "web reviews" from arbitrary email addresses are still recorded, but never rewarded
  • Combined with the platform's one-review-per-customer-per-product policy, a customer cannot farm awards by repeatedly reviewing the same product — reaching a multi-review threshold requires reviewing several different purchased products

Award Timing

OptionThe award is granted…
When submittedas soon as the customer submits the review
Once publishedonly after the review becomes published

Whether a review is auto-published or held for moderation is controlled inside your review platform's own app (for example, Judge.me). "Once published" therefore respects whatever moderation flow you have configured there.

Where Customers See It

Once enabled, the rule appears everywhere your other ways to earn are shown:

  • The loyalty widget on your storefront
  • The Ways to Earn theme block
  • The customer account page

The title and description you configure are what customers see, and both follow your shop's dynamic translations like any other rule.
