Referral Sharing Extension
The Referral Sharing Extension adds a "Referral sharing" block to your store's Thank you page and Order status page. The moment a customer finishes a purchase - the point of highest satisfaction in the whole Shopify funnel - they see their own referral link with a copy button and your enabled share options, so they can invite friends before the session ends.
Works on all Shopify plans. Like the Thank You Page Extension, these blocks do not require Shopify Plus. Only the Checkout UI Extension is Plus-only.
Zero wiring. There is nothing to connect - no campaign IDs, no manual setup per campaign. The block reads the buyer's identity from the authenticated Shopify session and mints a referral code automatically on first view if the customer does not have one yet.
What Customers See After Purchase
When a logged-in customer completes an order, the block appears on the Thank you page (and later on the Order status page of that order) showing:
Your Headline and Subtext The heading and supporting text you configure - for example, "Love your order? Share it." with "Give your friends a discount and earn rewards yourself."
The Customer's Referral Link Their personal referral URL in a field with a Copy button. Copying places the link on the clipboard and the control confirms it was copied.
Share Options The same channels you enabled in Sharing Options - Send via Email, Facebook, X (Twitter), WhatsApp, Viber, Signal and Telegram. Choosing a social channel opens that platform with the referral link prefilled; the Send via Email row triggers the referral email to the address the customer enters.
The same link everywhere. The referral code shown here is the customer's one code for your shop - identical to the one in the Customer Account UI Extension, the storefront widget and the Referral Sharing Block. Referrals shared from the Thank you page are tracked in Referral Analytics like any other share.
Setting Up the Extension
Step 1: Enable the Block in the App
- Open Keystone Loyalty Rewards and go to Referral.
- Enable the Thank you page block.
- Enter the headline and subtext customers will see.
- Click Save.
Step 2: Add the Block in the Checkout Editor
- Go to your Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout.
- Click Customize to open the checkout & accounts editor.
- Switch the page selector to the Thank you page.
- Click Add app block and select Referral sharing from Keystone Loyalty Rewards.
- Drag the block to your preferred position.
- Repeat steps 3-5 with the page selector on the Order status page.
- Click Save to publish your changes.
Editor preview: the editor shows a real preview with sample data - not a placeholder - so you can see and position the actual block without placing a live order. A banner in the editor explains that the live block depends on your plan.
Step 3: Configure the Block Settings
These settings are presentational and live in the checkout editor. Each surface is configured separately, so the Thank you page and the Order status page can look different if you want them to.
| Setting | Options | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Heading | Custom text | The title displayed at the top of the block. |
| Subtext | Custom text | Supporting line under the heading. |
| Heading icon | Show / Hide | Whether an icon is displayed next to the heading. |
| Background | Outline / Neutral / Plain | Card style, so the block fits your checkout branding. |
| Referral link | Show / Hide | Whether the copyable referral link row is displayed. |
| Share options | Show / Hide | Whether the share rows are displayed. |
Visibility Rules
The block decides on its own when to render, and renders nothing at all - not an empty frame - whenever it should not appear. There is no layout shift on the page.
| Condition | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Logged-in customer, referral program enabled | Full referral block is displayed. |
| Customer has no referral code yet | A code is minted on first view and shown immediately. |
| Guest checkout (no customer account) | Nothing is rendered. Referral codes are never created for anonymous visitors. |
| Block toggled off by the merchant | Nothing is rendered. |
| Referral program disabled | Nothing is rendered. |
| Plan does not include Referrals | Nothing is rendered. |
Guests still see the loyalty program. The referral block requires a recognized customer, but the loyalty empty state on the Thank you page is unaffected - guests and logged-out visitors can still be shown information about your program there.
Plan Availability
The Referral Sharing Extension follows the referral program itself: it is available from the Starter plan - the first plan that includes Referrals - and above. It is not included on the Free plan. During a trial, the feature is enabled automatically so you can try it before subscribing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Shopify Plus?
No. The Thank you page and Order status page blocks work on all Shopify plans.
Do customers need to be logged in?
Yes. A referral link belongs to a specific customer, so guests who check out without a customer account see nothing.
Do I have to connect the block to a campaign?
No. There are no campaign IDs to enter - the block fetches the buyer's referral data automatically as soon as it is enabled.
Is this the same as the Referral Sharing Block in my theme?
It is the same referral content on a different surface. The Referral Sharing Block is a theme app extension you place on your storefront pages; this one is a Shopify UI extension for the Thank you and Order status pages, added from the checkout editor.
Which sharing channels appear?
Exactly the ones enabled in Referral > Sharing Options, with your configured messages. Turn a channel off there and it disappears from this block too.
Is the referral link the same one from the customer account?
Yes. Each customer has one referral code per shop, shown identically across every surface.
Does reCAPTCHA apply here?
No, and it is not needed. Shopify UI extensions run in a sandbox that cannot load Google's script, so these surfaces are protected by Shopify's own session-token authentication instead - the block never accepts a customer identity supplied by the browser. reCAPTCHA applies to the public storefront referral forms. See Fraud Protection.
Is the block translated?
Yes. Customer-facing copy follows your configured languages. See Dynamic Translations.
Is it mobile-friendly?
Yes. The block is responsive and fits the Thank you and Order status layouts on mobile, tablet and desktop.
